Everybody Makes Mistakes

…everybody has those days, everybody knows what, what I’m talkin’ ’bout, everybody gets that way.

So you may have noticed I didn’t stick to my plan for this blog. Unfortunate as that may be, I… don’t really care. I didn’t try too hard to hold myself to it and ultimately realized that I didn’t actually like the plan I’d made for myself. Seriously, alternating blog posts and videos every single day? What miracle did I think was going to happen as soon as it became 2019 that would cause me to become a more motivated human? I think we can all agree that this disillusionment with the new year happens to everyone. If it actually does make you more motivated to see that digit change, good for you! I’d just like to acknowledge that when the year changes, my motivation DOES NOT. I was still very burnt out from the previous semester and I needed a lot of time to collect myself, spend time with my family, and have zero obligations.

Now, however, the new semester is just two days away (oh God) and I have to get back to being a responsible adult. I think the biggest benefit of this is being able to control my own schedule. I live in an area with zero public transportation and I don’t have a drivers’ license so I pretty much need to ask my parents if I want/need to go anywhere. At school, I walk pretty much everywhere, which is great for my physical AND mental health! Also, it gives me more time to listen to podcasts, which is always a plus.

I figure for clarity I should let you all know what classes I’m taking this semester. I’m looking at a pretty busy one, but I’m hoping it’ll be a good one, too. I’ll be taking Discrete Structures, a media literacy class (“foundational scholarship and critical inquiry in the information age” is the actual name of the course), a high-level colonial American history class, and I’ll be re-taking Object-Oriented Programming II. I’m still a little ashamed of having to re-take a class I failed, but I’m trying to look at it as a learning opportunity: I can give it the time and focus it needs now that I know that the effort I originally put in wasn’t sufficient. (You can tell how hard I’m trying to re-frame it in my mind from how many big words I used.) This is also the first time since I started going to school at age five that I haven’t done math! I passed the highest required math class for my major last semester (*Emma Perkins voice* FUCK YOU CALCULUS) so I won’t be taking another math class (technically) for at least another year! Don’t get me wrong, I love numbers, I just hate calculus and honestly, I’m glad to have a break from math classes. Whoever told me that computer science wouldn’t be math-heavy was a liar.

I’ve got quite a bit on the docket for tomorrow, my last day of freedom before the real work begins, so I’m going to peace out for tonight. I won’t maintain an update schedule because this blog is really not up high on the priority list. Thanks for making it this far! Here’s one of my favorite YouTube videos as a thank you for your time:
